BRITISH UNDER 18 FINAL

CAIN SMITH (DENHAM DRAGONS) improved on his impressive 5th place from last season to take the British Under 18 title. He dropped a point
to ALEX KELLY (ALDERSHOT APACHES) in heat 6 but Kelley dropped a point later in the meeting meaning a run off was required to decide the championship, which Smith won after a
lightning start. Kelly dropped his point to DAVID JENNER (CANVEY ISLAND CASTAWAYS) and he would also have been involved in the run-off
but for a pointless 2nd ride when he seemed to struggle with his machinery and trailed home last before going on to remain unbeaten and claim a well deserved 3rd place.

Just outside the rostrum places were 16 year old duo of Kieron Thorne and Andrew James, both finishing on 10 points. Although
disappointed to miss out on a medal this season the pair can take consolation from the fact that the top 3 here will all be too old next season and this year's top 4 were all back
after qualifying for the final previously! Of the rest of the field 5 riders will be too old to compete again next season with the
remaining 6 back for at least one more shot, amongst the latter is Sam Ives (16), who finished in the top half and will fancy his chances of being in the running next
season. One rider to make a few people sit up and make a note of his name was 14 year old Jason Bailey, of Bolsover Moaters in the JJ,
who finished his meeting with a win to end on 9 points - eligibly for 3 more seasons he looked like a future winner today but can he push on and fulfil his potential?!
