POLISH GRAND PRIX |
The top 3 coming into this round all produced solid performances to mean no movement in the rostrum places with RAY FRANCE (KING'S LYNN LIGHTNING) being crowned as a deserving World Champion following 8 rounds. PETR MARKO (BOTTESFORD BULLETS) and FILLIPPE CHONG (NECRONS) join him on the final rostrum after both being in the battle for the title all season and there can be no doubt the best 3 riders over the series received their just rewards this year. Marko went into the Grand Final in this round knowing he needed a point for 2nd overall and did it in some style by winning to take the round. |
ERLING TROELSEN (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) top scored in this round but couldn't quite do enough to steal a place in the top 8 overall and he will now face the GP Challenge to ensure he returns to the series next season. An engine failure for Troelsen in heat 11 almost certainly cost him a top 8 spot but the spot above him did go to LOUIS JOOSSENS (RICHMOND CHEETAHS) who missed an earlier round through injury so you could argue justice was done over the whole series. Other riders to join Joossens and the top 3 in automatically qualifying for next season were JACK HAGEN (STOCKHOLM SCORPIONS), RHODRI SZCZYGIEL (CANVEY ISLAND CASTAWAYS), RAFAL ARANOWSKI (READING REBELS) and JACEK KLECHA (unattached). The achievement from PL rider Szczygiel has been particularly impressive as he started the series as a reserve and didn't ride in the first round but took advantage of being called on to cover an injury in Denmark to keep his place as a wild card throughout and reach the Grand Finals on his way to joint 4th overall! |
For everyone else it's the dreaded trip to the GP Challenge, always a tough meeting with only the top 5 finishers absolutely guaranteed a place back in the GP series next season. |
